Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning. But for children play is serious learning. Play is really the work of childhood.

Inside our Classroom

HHBHCA Playschool Offers

Innovative Play-Based Learning: Our class activities are designed to be both fun and educational, ensuring that children develop a love for learning.

Daily Outdoor Playtime: Our preschool enjoys access to a large, fenced outdoor area, allowing children to explore and connect with nature at the end of class each day.

Community-Centered Approach: As a cooperative preschool, parents are actively involved with their child’s preschool experience. This provides a familiar and comforting class environment for students, which can help with a smoother transition.

Exceptional Location: Nestled within the vibrant community of Hounsfield Heights Briar Hill, we are conveniently located for families who work downtown and accept students from neighboring areas, including Hillhurst, Sunnyside, Rosedale, Capitol Hill and beyond.

Before and After School Care Options: We are located inside Briar Hill School, across the hall from Briar Hill Children’s Programs fully accredited childcare. We are able to pick up students from the daycare at the start of the day and drop them back off after class.

Our Classroom Routine

  • Greeting - Children are greeted and welcomed into the room for a 10 minute independent skills building time.

  • Meeting - We meet as a group at the carpet to discuss the activities available to them during Exploration time.

  • Exploration - The children get to interact with a variety of activities specially set up in the classroom. Educators engage with the children to enhance their learning.

  • Clean up - Children are encouraged to participate while we sign and dance to make it fun.

  • Snack - Children eat their parent-provided healthy snack. The Playschool is a peanut-free zone.

  • Group time - Children listen, share and participate in songs, finger plays, felt stories, books and games. We create deeper understandings through asking questions and recording our interests.

  • Outdoor Play - We ensure that we get outside to play and explore our large outdoor play space.
