Play is the highest form of research.
— albert einstein

Our Playschool is a non-profit, parent-run cooperative affiliated with the HHBH Community Association. We believe the classroom should be happy, stimulating and playful; encouraging each child to maintain a healthy, natural desire to cooperate and learn. Overall, our program is rooted in kindness — we are kind to ourselves, kind to each other and kind to our classroom.

Our Day

  • Greeting - Children are greeted and welcomed into the room for a 10 minute independent skills building time - this can be as simple as learning to put on their own shoes or participating in any of the other options presented at the tables.

  • Meeting - We take 10 minutes to meet at the carpet to discuss the special activities and options available to them for during Free Exploration time.

  • Exploration - The children get to interact with a variety of activities specially set up in the diffest areas of the environment. Educators directly engage with the children to add any additional items that could be potentially added to enhance their learning.

  • Tidy-up - Children are encouraged to participate while we sign and dance to make it fun.

  • Group time - Children listen, share and participate in songs, finger plays, felt stories, books and games. We create deeper understandings through asking questions and recording our interests.

  • Snack - Children eat their parent-provided healthy snack. The Playschool is a peanut-free zone.

  • Outdoor Play - We ensure that we get outside to play and explore our AMAZING and LARGE outdoor play space.

  • Program enrichment - Classroom visitors (music therapist, soccer coach, etc.), music, science activities, etc.

Our Goals

Nurture Respect

To nurture self-respect, self-control, self-expression and responsibility for ourself, for others and for our environment.

Play-Based Development

To provide a play-based, environment which encourages each child to develop socially, physically, emotionally, intellectually, morally and creatively.

Inspire Love of learning

To inspire a love of learning by developing Pre-K skills through play, music, movement, drama and storytelling in a relaxed, playful setting.

Play is often talked about as if it were a relief from serious learning but for children play is serious learning. Play is the work of childhood.
